5 Ways a Shared Planbook Makes Co-Teaching and Co-Planning Easier
A shared planbook helps co-teachers stay aligned, add student supports, and plan together even when they can't meet.
Common Planner’s Standards Tracker helps teachers see what standards they’ve covered, what they haven't, and when each standard was taught.
Tracking standards all year can get messy, especially if your lessons change, you teach multiple classes, or your standards live in a separate spreadsheet. Common Planner’s Standards Tracker makes it easier to see which standards you’ve taught, how often you’ve taught them, and which ones you still need to cover — all from the lessons already in your planbook.
If you’ve ever gotten to March or May and thought, “Wait… have I actually taught that standard yet?” you’re not alone. Even when your lessons are planned well, standards coverage is hard to keep track of in your head.
That’s what the Standards Tracker in Common Planner is for. It connects your standards to the lessons in your planbook so you can quickly see what you’ve covered, how many times you’ve covered it, where it showed up, and what you still haven’t taught yet.
This is hands down the best teacher planner...ever. My planning is so efficient and streamlined. I can easily move lessons around, copy/paste, and create new lesson templates. I love that it tracks standards. I use the website function to display my plans as an agenda for the students so I don't have to create a separate slideshow or agenda. (I just hide the cards I don't want them to see)
Open Standards Tracker from your nav bar. That will take you to the tracker page.
On the left, you’ll see the courses and classes in your planbook. Any selected class will be highlighted blue.
Select one class if you want to focus on a single section, choose a few classes, or select everything if you want to look across your full planbook.
Below your courses, you’ll see the standards sets you’ve used in your planbook. If you only teach one subject, you may only see one set. If you teach multiple subjects or use multiple standards sets, you’ll see more options.
Just like classes, the standards set you select will be highlighted blue. The tracker will show coverage for whatever is selected.
Once you’ve selected a class and standards set, the tracker gives you a standards map based on your actual lessons.
You’ll see standards on the left and coverage details on the right. For each standard, you can see how many times it was used and which lessons it appeared in, including the lesson dates.
So if a standard was used in 8 lessons, you’ll see that count and the list of lessons connected to it.
You can click any listed lesson to see what you actually taught when that standard was used.
This is helpful when you want to plan a spiral review, reuse part of an older lesson, or check what students already did before you build the next lesson.
If you want to see only the standards you still need to teach, turn on hide standards that have been covered.
The list will update to show standards with zero usage. When you want to see everything again, turn the filter off.
The Standards Tracker is especially useful when you’re doing a mid-year check-in, planning the next unit, checking what you missed near the end of the year, or answering the question, “When did I teach this?”
It is also easy to print a Standards Tracker report or send the link to an admin or colleague who needs to see it. That way, you are not creating a separate document just to show what you’ve covered.
It is also much easier than trying to piece together standards coverage from separate docs, spreadsheets, or an old curriculum mapping template.
