Let’s face it: as teachers, we’re constantly responding to shifts in our schedule. From inclement weather days, to a lesson that runs long, to surprise assemblies, our schedules are ever-changing.
In this Guide for Teachers, we’ll talk about how Cc makes these adjustments easier than ever, saving you time and hassle.
Pre-Work: This guide assumes that you have already created an account, set up your first planbook, and started planning a few lessons. If you haven’t done that and need some help, check out our Cc for Teachers video on Planbook Set-Up. In this guide, we’ll focus on:
How to bump individual lessons forward or pull them back
How to adjust all of your classes when there is an inclement weather day or a related event
How to make adjustments to your unit plan
To begin, we’ll talk about how to bump or pull back individual lessons:
Let’s imagine that on March 7, my Reading lesson is interrupted by a fire drill. Before Cc, I would have needed to adjust every single plan and move it forward by a single day. But Cc simplifies this process:
On the March 7 Reading lesson that I want to bump, I can click the “…” and then choose ‘No Class.’ I’ll select “Yes—I want to Bump,” and then, if I like, I can leave a note specifying why class was interrupted. I’ll write something like “Fire Drill” and then click “Create.”
You can see that only my reading lessons were adjusted and that every lesson has been moved ahead by a single day.
Conversely, let’s imagine that my lesson on March 5 runs long and I realize that students would benefit from my re-teaching it. In this case, I would instead choose “Bump,” thereby freeing up a space for me to create a new lesson for reteaching.
I can also reverse this function by clicking “Pull future lessons Backwards to this Date.”
Now let’s imagine an entire day is called off. Something like a snow storm rolls in and school gets cancelled.
To make adjustments to an entire day, I can click on the “…” next to the date itself and then select “No Classes.” I’ll follow the same steps as before, choosing “Yes, I want to Bump” and then providing a note for why school was out.
Let’s say a blizzard rolls through and school is cancelled for the rest of the week. I can click the toggle button to “On” where it says “Stretches for Multiple Days,” choose the duration and there you go, my entire planbook has been adjusted for me.
Lastly, we’ll talk about how to make adjustment to our Unit Calendar. To do this, navigate to the unit planner by clicking “Unit Timeline.”
To change a unit’s start date, we’ll simply click on that unit and drag it so the bar starts on the day we want our unit to start.
To change the unit’s end date, we can click on the right-end of the unit plan bar and drag it to be the appropriate length.
And that’s it: with Cc, you can quickly and easily shift your schedule when the unexpected happens. So next time school is called off, you won’t have to waste time adjusting your calendar. Instead, you can just enjoy a well-deserved break.
